Park DuValle Community Health Center Saves $167K Through Strategic Sourcing
The client
Park DuValle Community Health Center is a federally qualified health center (FQHC) and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving the Louisville, KY community for more than 50 years. The organization provides medical, dental, behavioral health, and support services regardless of a patient’s insurance status or ability to pay.
The challenge
As Park DuValle Community Health Center continued its mission of delivering high-quality, accessible healthcare, leadership identified two significant opportunities for cost optimization:
- Rising medical and dental supply expenses
- The need to replace and modernize its interpreter services program
The organization needed a solution that would reduce costs without compromising patient care, service quality, or operational efficiency.
The solution
ERA Group partnered closely with key stakeholders across the organization to understand their operational requirements and evaluate available market options. Drawing on experience from similar healthcare engagements, ERA Group shared relevant industry insights and case studies, including results achieved for another community health center. This helped demonstrate the potential value of a strategic sourcing review.
For both categories, ERA Group conducted a comprehensive supplier assessment and negotiated with incumbent providers as well as alternative suppliers. The team evaluated pricing, service capabilities, and overall value to identify the best-fit solutions.
Ultimately, Park DuValle selected a new supplier for interpreter services, securing improved technology and service capabilities while reducing overall costs.
The results
Over a two year monitoring period, the nonprofit realized $167,328 in savings across medical supplies, dental supplies and interpreter services. Beyond the financial impact, the organization gained access to a preferred interpreter services provider and upgraded equipment that better supports communication with patients. The savings generated through the project are expected to support Park DuValle’s continued investment in its mission, including plans to hire additional high-quality staff to serve the community.
