Manuel Velázquez contributes to El Debate in his February article on energy
Extracted from the article “Electricity Saturation: Red Eléctrica Reveals It Will Only Be Able to Connect New Industries and Homes to 25% of Its ‘Outlets’”, February 20, 2026.
In its article, “El Debate” explains that only 25% of the connection nodes in the power grid—that is, the outlets where all homes and industries are connected—can meet current demand.
This is the first time this information has been published, following the revelation in September of a similar collapse in the power grid.
Manuel explains: “This is critical data for a country’s economy; the impact of a collapsed grid is very high.”
The operator, chaired by Beatriz Corredor, urges extending voltage control to as many facilities as possible—something that was impossible before the blackout on April 28, 2025.
