Corporate Fleets: Green optimisation Solutions
The costs associated with vehicle fleets—whether owned or leased—are now more than ever subject to significant changes due to the increasingly urgent need to adopt green practices.
With the 2020 Budget Law, taxation has been tightened for company cars registered on or after July 1, 2020, that are used for both business and personal purposes and have high CO2 emissions. In fact, the taxed fringe benefit remains at 30% only for cars with emissions between 61 and 160 g/km. Cars with emissions up to 190 g/km are taxed at 50%, while those exceeding 190 g/km are taxed as high as 60%.
Significant restrictions are also on the horizon for vehicles used 100% for business purposes. Following the 2015 Paris Agreement and the 2020 European Green Deal, many countries (such as the Netherlands) are launching pilot projects involving entire zero-emission logistics zones. This means that only commercial vehicles with zero CO2 emissions will be allowed to operate in these areas. This trend confirms that the simplest way for companies to reduce CO2 emissions is to switch to a low-emission fleet.
For the time being, these zones do not exist in Italy, but if they were to be established in our country in the near future, companies would run the risk of finding themselves with vehicles that can no longer operate, “trapped” by long-term rental/leasing contracts or even outright ownership.
Moreover, according to LeasePlan’s recent study, the “EV Readiness Index 2020,” Italy ranks near the bottom within the European Union in terms of “readiness” for electric vehicles, as shown in the table below:
Today, therefore, companies find themselves navigating a maze of regulations that increasingly push toward eco-friendly choices. However, even with incentives, these choices are not always the most cost-effective and clash with companies’ urgent need to focus on the short-to-medium term to address the liquidity crisis.
The ERA Group’s team of experts, drawing on experience gained from hundreds of case studies, can help companies find optimisation solutions that also incorporate green considerations.
